Remix Redux (With Downloads)
I've just got my hands on a copy of Summerland. It's the new album by The Herd, and it is awesomely cool. Granted I'm a pretty big fangirl of this band to start with, but...Summerland is arguably a better album than The Sun Never Sets or An Elefant Never Forgets ever were.
They've got this habit of taking old songs - not exactly popular songs, more like folk songs or ballads, the kind of thing that Australian kids learn in primary school and never fully forget once they know how the chorus should go - and remixing them again. On The Sun Never Sets, Eric Bogle's A Walk In The Light Green became I Was Only 19. On Summerland, they've made Toorali out of Botany Bay.
I learnt the words to A Walk In The Light Green when I was eleven. I've been getting Botany Bay stuck in my head at annoying times since we learnt about the First Fleet when I was in Grade One.
The songs shouldn't work as remixes, but they do. I think that's pretty damn cool.
